A .plan file may be understood by early twenty-first century newcomers as social media of an earlier era.

Some would maintain a log of recent adventures, others tracked humorous quotes (usually taken out of context) of their peers, notice of holiday travel schedules, bits of ASCII art, etc.

Others of us would used it as a medium for expresion.

This was mine as a labrat of the CSL from long ago.

References are primarily from alternative rock and industrial music of mid to late 1980's such as Meat Beat Manifesto, Depeche Mode, Front 242, They Might Be Giants, Book of Love, The Primatives, NIN, Camouflage and soundtrack to 1984 by Eurythmics.

Gugal

Back when a certain search engine became mainstream, people mused about the origins of its name. Something about a phonetic or misspelled word from mathematics which means "a very large number" is the accepted answer. That precise number, by the way, is 1 with a hundred zeros following it.

That may apply, yes.

But maybe there's another, less discussed connection: Gugal.
